Our Commitment to Our Community

Building a Dementia-Aware Community, Together

Why Community Matters to Us

At Shedfield Lodge, we believe that dementia awareness should extend beyond our home and into the wider community. Our vision is simple: for every person living with dementia to feel valued, understood, and supported in their daily lives.

To achieve this, we partner with local businesses and organisations to build a community that truly understands dementia. We provide free Dementia Awareness training for staff, helping them recognise the challenges individuals face and how small changes in understanding can make a big difference. Businesses that complete the training proudly display our Dementia Aware window sticker — a visible sign of their commitment to inclusivity and care.

But we don’t stop there. We also offer other essential training opportunities, such as First Aid, Health & Safety, and Moving & Handling, at no cost. By sharing our knowledge and resources, we aim to create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone.

Because building a dementia-aware community isn’t something we can do alone — it’s something we achieve together.

Our Initiatives

  • Dementia Awareness Training – Free sessions to help local businesses and staff better understand dementia.

  • Dementia Aware Window Sticker – A visible sign of support and inclusion for the community.

  • Free Training Opportunities – First Aid, Health & Safety, and Moving & Handling workshops at no cost.

"Powerful. Emotional. Made you more aware. Be more patient. Really informative. Get more awareness. Be more compassionate. Not to treat everybody the same, everybody is different." - Nicky & Becky, Southern Cooperative.

"I came to the session not knowing what to expect. It was a real eye opener, learning how to deal with dementia in certain situations. A lot of facts and information, including a video which really touches your heart and shows you it from a different perspective." - Olivia & Sophie, Wispers.

"Really enjoyed the 2 hours of our dementia awareness course. It will help us in the salon identify when clients may be struggling and how to help in certain situations. The Difference We Make

Every training session, every conversation, and every community partnership brings us one step closer to a world where people living with dementia feel understood, respected, and supported. By sharing our knowledge, we help local businesses and organisations see the person behind the diagnosis — creating spaces where inclusion, compassion, and dignity come first.

The ripple effect is powerful: a shopkeeper who greets a customer with patience, a café that proudly displays a dementia-aware sticker, a workplace that feels confident in supporting staff and clients alike. Together, these small changes build a community where people living with dementia can feel truly valued.
