History of Shedfield Lodge

Shedfield Lodge is set in beautiful surroundings just outside of Wickham in the small parish of Shedfield. The lodge was built in the early 1700's where it started life as a stately home. Captain James George Crabb-Boucher was lucky enough to receive the lodge as a wedding gift from his father.

In the mid 18th century the lodge became the property of the Franklyn family who remained the owners through to 1956. Interestingly the Franklyns offered the lodge to the Canadian army during WWII as a base. You can still read names and dates written by Canadian soldiers on the walls of the cellar, including the odd saucy hand drawn picture!

During the 60's and 70's Shedfield Lodge was used as both a nursing home and a children's home helping local children with mental disabilities. In 1980 the Jones and Proctor families began to lease the property which led to the establishment of Shedfield Lodge Residential Care Home. It was in 2001 that the Geach family became the current proprietors of Shedfield Lodge, continuing the family run business in Shedfield.

Today the lodge provides a unique location for a care home, offering grand views over the surrounding countryside whilst still known as a local landmark.

Entertainment & Activities

At Shedfield Lodge we take pride in the range of activities we have available for residents. We understand how important it is to keep the mind active. To help promote this we encourage everyone to participate in as many of our activities as possible. Remember at Shedfield we also operate unrestricted visiting hours.

Shedfield has a vast amount of animals to look at including horses, ponies, chickens and the resident cat. We also have an entertainment coordinator who arranges outings and all of the entertainment around the home keeping it person centred and adapted to the needs of the Service Users whilst listening to the families for ideas. One of our entertainment coordinators currently also works on the care side so understands the needs of each Service User.

We also hire a specially adapted minibus so residents and staff can enjoy many pleasant outings. Visits to the local beach for ice creams and walks along the shore always seem to be a favourite.

It doesn't matter how much we talk about our own services there is nothing better than finding out what other people think of what we do. Click here to read some of the letters we have received from residents families.

The Lodge Today

Shedfield Lodge was built in the 1800's as a Manor House set in the Victorian Rural Pastures at the heart of the Meon Valley, close to the select villages of Shedfield and Wickham. We are only a few minutes from Fareham. To this day the building has been restored to reflect the original design and this is now a long established care home, specialising in dementia, for the elderly. Set in our own quiet equestrian grounds housing a recently restored stable area, we benefit from many horses and Shetland ponies grazing the surrounding fields. We have a beautiful landscaped garden featuring a fishpond with easy access for wheelchair users. Shedfield Lodge is run under the close supervision of the Proprietor, Mr Andrew Geach and his wife Carole, along with the Registered Manager and the Head of Care. This is a family run business with the management team having a vast amount of training and experience in the Care Home Industry.
